Life Coaching 101
Life Coaching is a growing trend- it is absolutely booming right now – and I for one am very excited about this development.
On lifecoach.com, they state…”If there is a gap between where you are now and where you want to be, then there is room for life coaching.” Well, this pretty much sums up the whole human race. So, everyone could use a life coach.
I will go a step further and say that not only could everyone use a Life Coach, but also that everyone actually needs one.
A relationship with a Life Coach is unlike any other relationship you have or will ever have. It is like having a therapist, consultant, mentor, cheerleader, and friend all bottled up in one person.
This bond may be likened to the kind of relationship you would have with a therapist in that you are seeking their guidance to overcome obstacles in your life. It allows them to see your patterns and help you develop new ones. However, there are some fundamental differences between the two. While therapy is focused on healing the past by taking you back to what has happened, Life Coaching, focuses on how to do things differently now and in the future. As you open your mind up and gain awareness, you are actually better equipped to handle and reframe the old wounds.
Just as a business consultant would guide you in the decision making process, so you can move forward in your career, a life coach will help you to see what it is that is holding you back and what is working well for you, in order for you to grow and develop to meet your life goals. They do this by forcing you to take inventory of yourself, much like you would in a business. Life coaches are skilled at identifying your strengths and guiding you in the direction that best fits you and your dreams.
The relationship between you and your Coach definitely mimics mentoring, which is why it is crucial you choose a Life Coach that has accomplished some of the things you would like to or has unique ideas that support your goals. A mentor can be anybody who serves as a teacher or guide. A typical example of a mentoring relationship would be a senior company employee who takes a new or less experienced employee under their wing and shows them how the work is best done. In this way, your Coach is indeed your Mentor. Almost all coaches have been through a coaching experience themselves and, for many of them, me included, that experience was the catalyst for the passion they feel for this role and how they know exactly what works and what doesn’t. Also, since they are winning at the game of Life, they are going to show you how to win, as well!
Your Life Coach is also your personal cheerleader and is as invested in your journey as you are. Your success is their success. They are going to absolutely let you know when you are doing things well and you’d better believe they’ll let you know when you are slipping back into old habits that don’t serve you. You can expect a lot of high fives and jumping up and down, whether figuratively or literally, throughout this Journey, but you can also expect some well-meaning and honest ass whooping too. Your coach will not only tell you when you’re off track but will use unique tactics to get you back on track. They are your loudest voice of encouragement, until they get you to truly see and believe that the tactics they are teaching you are working, by which time you will have become your own best cheerleader.
One of the most alluring and unique aspects of this professional relationship is that the bond you create allows you to be seen, heard, understood and honored no matter where you have been, what you have done, or what you do. It is certainly one of the most nonjudgmental relationships I have had in my life. This is what makes the relationship feel like more than just business. This part of the relationship allows you to explore your ability to trust someone else in a truly unique way.
You will be stretched in ways you NEVER thought of, growing far beyond what you felt you were capable of. You will be shown the infinite possibilities that exist within you and how to easily bring them to life. In this way a Life Coach is your absolute best tool to living your best life.
Imagine a world where everyone is striving to be their best self. I believe we would truly live in a changed world. For this reason, I believe Life Coaching is what this world needs. Even if you don’t buy into the theory that our world would change if each individual was living their most fulfilled and productive life, you can certainly buy into the notion that having a Life Coach will change YOUR world. This is a proven fact. Google it, you will see. Life Coaching has proven time and time again to bring people to levels they never dreamed possible. They will help you work through your issues, decide your next move, see your strengths, show you how to be the best version of you, inspire and encourage you, and love you in a way only they can through it all. You will be empowered AND unstoppable!
Whatever your goals are and regardless of whether they are simple or complex, your Coach has your back!
